Chapel of the Transfiguration of the Saviour (Metamorfosi Sotiros)
A humble place of worship by the water…
The whitewashed chapel of the Transfiguration of the Saviour (Metamorfosi Sotiros) is located on a small peninsula on the northern shore of Lake Petron. According to a surviving inscription, it was built in 1929, with masonry consisting largely of ancient building materials from nearby archaeological sites dating to various historical periods. The rocky hillock above the chapel offers a breathtaking view of the entire lake, as well as the ruins of the Byzantine castle “Kale” and the basilica that survives at its summit.
